What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of movement that focuses on:
- Breathing
- Axial Elongation & Core Control
- Spinal Articulation
- Organisation of the Head, Neck and Shoulders
- Alignment & Weight Bearing of the Extremities
- Movement Integration
It is a somatic method of exercise, which means it helps to improve body awareness and consciousness of how our body moves.
Is Pilates the same as Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates is different to other forms of Pilates. Clinical Pilates is always individualised, with exercises tailored to each individual. Clinical Pilates often focuses on rehabilitation and is incredible for recovery from surgeries and injuries. Generalised Pilates classes are not individualised and everybody completes the same exercises.
What do we offer at Pivotal?
At Pivotal we offer a range of classes each week, all of which are Clinical Pilates based and personalised to each individual. At Pivotal we know that no two bodies are the same and we strive to make everybody feel safe, yet challenged.
We have classes run by our physiotherapists which are called “Clinical Rehab” as well classes run by our Pilates instructors referred to as our “Clinical Pilates” classes. We also offer pregnancy-specific classes and mums & bubs classes for post-partum recovery.
Why Clinical Pilates at Pivotal?

We know your background, we know your history and most importantly we know and understand YOU. No two classes are the same which makes it exciting and different each week. We work on areas we need to rehabilitate, strengthen and/or move and we also challenge you and incorporate what you enjoy, as well as address your specific fitness goals.
We use a variety of different equipment in class which allows us to vary intensity with the use of springs and resistance. We use reformers, trapeze table, multi-chair, ladder barrel, pilates (magic) rings, mats, foam rollers, weights, resistance bands, pulleys, sliders PLUS a whole lot more of other fun and exciting props to challenge you as appropriate.
So, you better believe we are going to have a world of fun together whilst moving and challenging your body as YOU need.
Oh, and did we mention we have a clinic therapy dog called Honey? … And, who doesn’t want puppy cuddles whilst working hard and exercising? The best of both worlds, it’s all about balance. Work hard and get reward (plus your body will thank you for it)!
How do I get started with Pilates?
We recommend an initial assessment with one of our physiotherapists prior to starting classes. This is to ensure we can do a full assessment to ensure all exercises are tailored to your specific goals and capabilities.
